Former Plasterer and Hairdresser, John and Jane McAllister are the founders of Comedy Lounge, Perth’s premier comedy club’s. They started their journey back in 2004 at the Hyde Park Hotel when Werzel Montague handed the reins to John in order to keep standup comedy in Perth prospering. John continued to run shows on  Thursday night. 

A few years later the Hyde Park Hotel was sold, and Comedy Lounge moved to the Charles Hotel in North Perth and this was their home for over a decade. 

From the start, they had one goal in mind: to open their own club in the heart of Perth City. John and Jane spent years travelling to some of the best comedy clubs around the world, and carefully picked out the best features from each one. After more than 15 years of hard work at the charles hotel they they had a chance meeting with a Perth landlord, who planted the seed to take on their own premises.  

In November of 2018 Comedy Lounge Perth City opened and since then, the venue has grown to become the number one comedy club in Western Australia and has been recognized as one of the best comedy clubs in the world.  

In 2023 Comedy Lounge and Sailing For Orange’s partnership was formed to design and launch Comedy Lounge’s second club located in the heart of the Fremantle’s bustling café strip. 

At Comedy Lounge, John and Jane have created a unique atmosphere that allows people to enjoy their favourite comedians, have a few drinks, and have a good laugh. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Comedy Lounge is the perfect place to have a great time with friends and family. 

John and Jane have a passion for standup comedy, and they are always pushing the boundaries to deliver the best quality shows possible. They put a lot of effort into ensuring that their lineup is always fresh and up-to-date, with the best comedians from all over the world.
